Countryside family breaks - Device free!
As we know there is a major trend towards “back to nature” activities, whether in our everyday life or within our holidays.
The whole idea of family time exploring new hobbies and outdoor activities is driving countryside holiday breaks and a trend we will all hook into soon, if you haven’t already.
Getting away for a few days, or even a couple of weeks, with down time to totally relax has a massive appeal for the whole family and if we can get the youngsters off their devices, then even better. To be fair, it is not just the youngsters that would benefit from device free time, we all would. Time to escape the ping, ping, ping as emails come through, and social messages that absorb our time.
Accommodation options are plenty, with countryside park locations throughout the country, whether your interest is camping, glamping, caravans, or a fully equipped holiday lodge.
Your choice of location will depend on the activity you are looking for, with so many ideas to explore. Cycling must be one of the biggest trends of the moment, and perfect in many ways, as it cuts across all age groups, with many good cycle routes which you can find from the local tourist information centre.
Nature trails exploring what the countryside has to offer is a keen topic, whether you are just out for a good walk, or digging deeper to explore insects, wildflowers, pond life or wild animal habits. How about a farm visit, especially at lambing season?
You might however want to get a bit more active and try your skills at water sports like canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, and rafting, with many water sports centres around the country.
Fishing is one of the largest sports in the UK so why not join your children in some lessons and find out what it has to offer? Horse riding is another popular activity sometimes forgotten, and another great one for those wanting to develop a new interest away from devices.
For the very active how about climbing, at one of the many indoor climbing wall centres available today, or indeed after some experience, maybe head off to a mountainous area to explore further. Alternatively, if feeling adventurous, how about a Zip Wire, many of which cater for different ages.

Coming back down to earth a bit…. there is even cooking, which has been trending this summer. Take time out in the lodge to allow the youngsters to experiment with cooking, or even the husband for that matter. Whoever doesn’t normally cook, now is the time to have fun and learn.
From climbing, to zip wires, to cycling and water sports, there is something for everyone, once you look carefully, even ice skating and swimming. Why not get stuck in, put the phone, iPad and computer game down.………. and enjoy exploring what the outdoor lifestyle has to offer.
